Do students really need letter grades ?
Letter grades is a big deal for school. Its what every student and parent is either looking forward to or dreading every year. You either get a ,A ,B+ , B , C+, C, C-, F. A is the best you can get then F is the worst you can get it means failed. If you do very poorly in school and get a really bad letter grade it reflects on your college and carrier applications. Letter grades have been in school for a long time but now some school are questioning or have stopped handing out letter grades all together. The University of Toronto is suggesting changes to their grading system.I think that letter grades are important because when you get your report card you want to see how your doing and your progress that your making and see if you need to do better. What if you got a really bad letter grade but because your school is not handing them out you cant see what your getting you could be failing and not knowing it. By getting your report cards you see what your getting and if your not doing well you can try harder and achieve your goal. So i think its best to get letter grades because without them i think that allot of parents and students would be upset because report cards is such a important thing for school you need good grades to pass high school and to get into college or get a good job , like who would want to hire you if you didn't know what you were doing or you were not qualified for the job they would need your letter grades to see this.

I'm not critising, but this is a MULTI-paragragh post, yours is only one...... sorry I have nothing to do, so I'm on blogger all the time :/
ReplyDeleteJeffrey , it is ok to remind your fellow bloggers of the criteria and expectations as part of your critique. Hopefully Daniela sees this and edits it before Saturday. This is partly how you support your 'team' and help them get better.
ReplyDeleteDaniela, I see you have some strong feelings about grading and that is great. However, in losing the letter grades they are offering an alternate method of informing you of your level of achievement. Since you make no mention of it I wonder if you have read the article?
(you can review the multi-paragraph format under the topics or instructions). I look forward to seeing your revised post!
Daniela I agree with Ms. Lees you had some strong feelings about grading. It's great to share your feelings! You forgot to do a multi-paragraph post but, now you know so you can do better next time! Great effort! :)
ReplyDeletei also agree with Ms.Lees, you were very opinionated, however you did forget to mention what the university of Toronto would be using instead of letter grades, because they wouldnt just stop giving grades; otherwise many students would stop trying as their parents would never know what they are reciving in their courses. Other than that you did good job! (:
ReplyDeleteHi, Daniela! :)
ReplyDeleteI could really see your opinion on changing the letter grade system in your paragraph. I really liked how you explained why you thought not receiving report cards would be bad.I agree with the hiring part. It'd be challenging for them to decide if they should hire certain people or not since they won't be able to look at their specific grades and see how well they did in their school careers. If they keep the letter grades, it'd be really easy to point them out and they'd be pretty much straight forward. I haven't read the article about this matter but maybe they would find another way of showing how the students' are doing. Also, if I were the student, I think I would know roughly what I'm getting in my classes and I don't think it'd be a huge problem on knowing how I'm doing in school. For example, I could guess that I was going to get an A in math because I knew what I got on most my tests and I just rounded them up all together.
You did a great job on expressing your opinion but as the other group members already said, it needs to me in multi-paragraph form. I saw some parts that could've been separated so I don't think it'd be a big problem next time. Also, you could've explained a little bit more about U of T's opinions and what their plans are for the future.
Other than those two, you did a fantastic job on your first post! Good job, Daniela! :
